Durham Rescue Mission ready to serve hot Thanksgiving lunch to thousands of people

25November 2021

DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) — Volunteers worked overnight into Thanksgiving to put the finishing touches on an annual holiday tradition in Durham.

The Durham Rescue Mission is once again hosting its holiday feast after it was cancelled last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Volunteers spent all night cooking 150 turkeys, which they will give away to people who may not otherwise have access to a hot meal.

Each meal will include the turkey and all the trimmings. In addition, the mission will have 1,500 hot dogs and each family that comes will get groceries for a additional meal later.

Games and prizes will also be available for children to enjoy.

Lunch will begin at 12 p.m. outdoors at the Durham campus located at 1201 East Main Street.
