Gas station owners cut prices to help drivers in desperate search for cheaper fuel

— In Arizona, unleaded gas costs well over $5 a gallon for many customers.

The owners of one Phoenix gas station are receiving praise for a gesture that’s prioritizing their customers’ plight over their location’s profits. Drivers at a Valero station are paying $4.99 a gallon, leading to the station being a popular stop among local drivers.

The owners said their customers are saving about $15 on average whenever they use the station to fill up. That’s a big help when inflation is hitting American consumers at places other than the gas pump.

Owners Ramandeep Kaur and Jaswiendre Singh want to keep prices below average for as long as they can. The station has also commonly reduced prices around the holidays.

“We are just trying to help our community, our people so they can save some money,” said Kaur. “We are thinking people need money, people need help…”

“Out in my neighborhood gas is $5.99 a gallon and that’s not feasible,” said Mikedra Schexnayder.

Motorists in the area are appreciative. The owners were out directing traffic on Saturday to deal with the the onslaught of customers.

“Nobody’s going to do that,” said Jesse Miranda. “You’ve got to have a good heart.”

This comes as gas companies are being accused of price gouging. ExxonMobil, Chevron and other major oil companies have announced profits totaling more than $40 billion in the first quarter of 2022.
