— A Raleigh man was killed in a head-on collision early Monday morning during a police chase in Sanford.

Police said that Scott Reid, 56, drove his vehicle through the front of a convenience store on Lee Avenue while trying to steal from the store.

The store manager at the Fastee Mart said Reid did around $10,000 in damage.

After stealing some property, he got back into his vehicle and drove away. Sanford police then chased after Reid, who refused to stop.

Officers chased Reid down Tramway Road toward U.S. Highway 1 until he crashed head-on with another car near Wicker Street.

Two other people involved in the crash were transported to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. Reid died at the scene of the crash, officials said.
