As students began loading up the buses to leave school for summer break, a 15-year-old student pulled an airsoft style toy gun from their backpack and began shooting at other students on Friday afternoon, according to a social media post from the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office.

According to their post, the incident was taken with utmost seriousness. A School Resource Officer Lieutenant was immediately called, and the SRO working at the school is obtaining juvenile petitions against the student involved for ‘Disorderly Conduct’ and ‘Possession of a Weapon Other Than a Gun on School Grounds.’

No students were injured in this assault, officials said. A teacher nearby witnessed the incident and “seized the weapon and the student.”

According to a photo shared by the sheriff’s office, the gun appeared to be a SplatRBall, which is described on the brand’s website as a” full auto and semi auto electric soft water bead gel ball blaster gun.”

“This incident, and those like it are taken seriously both by Edgecombe County Public Schools and the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office, especially in light of recent events,” reads the social media post for Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Atkinson stated that “this behavior will not be tolerated in ECPS and our community.”
