Twitter posts from longtime Canes announcer Tripp Tracy's account worry fans

The Carolina Hurricanes are celebrating a division title after defeating the New York Rangers 4-3 Tuesday night.

So far, however, the team has not addressed what happened with Tripp Tracy, their longtime color commentator, hours before the big win.

Tracy did not call the game, which took place in New York, but two tweets were posted to his Twitter page before the puck dropped. The tweets, which have since been deleted, stated Tracy has a drinking problem that needs to be addressed.

Screenshots of both tweets, shared by Barstool North Carolina, are circulating on social media.

The first tweet mentions Tracy has a drinking problem. The second tweet goes into more depth about the difficulty of trying to quit.

Both tweets contained typos. The second read, “For those who struggle with drinking, trust me I have tied harder than anything else I’ve done in my whole life … but on this one I finally surrender.”

Canes fans have flooded the internet to show their support and love. Shane Willis, who formerly played for the Hurricanes and currently serves as an analyst during the pregame show, intermission reports and postgame show, filled in for Tracy on Tuesday.

Tracy, who has called Canes games since 1998, tweeted again after the game, congratulating the team on getting their division title. He made no reference to fan posts or his earlier tweets.

This is the second straight year the Canes have won their division. The team will be back in Raleigh Thursday night to host the New Jersey Devils for the final home game of the regular season.
