Raleigh, N.C. — A former Wake County detention officer is accused of facilitating an assault on an inmate in February.
Kareem Abdul Shabazz, 27, was charged with felony obstructing justice and misdemeanor assault inflicting serious injury.
The Wake County Sheriff’s Office said Shabazz and an inmate got into a verbal fight in late February.
Shortly after, the sheriff’s office said Shabazz, who was assigned to the dorm where the alleged fight took place, allowed Darryl Anthony Braun, 34, to enter the cell of the other inmate and a fight took place.
Braun was charged with habitual misdemanor assault and misdemeanor assault inflicting serious injury in connection to the incident.
Braun remains in custody, while Shabazz was released after posting a $5,000 bond.
